Reconstructing the Epistemology of Scientific Qur'anic Exegesis within the Framework of ?Ul?m al-Qur'an: Integrating Revelation, Science, and Interpretive Methodology

Abstract

Scientific Qur'anic exegesis (tafs?r ?ilm?) has become one of the most significant contemporary approaches to interpreting Qur'anic verses related to natural phenomena. However, its epistemological foundation remains a subject of scholarly debate, particularly regarding the integration of revelation and scientific knowledge within the framework of ?Ul?m al-Qur'an. This article examines the reconstruction of the epistemology of scientific Qur'anic exegesis by exploring its conceptual foundations, sources of knowledge, and interpretive methodology through a qualitative library research approach. The study analyzes classical and contemporary literature on Qur'anic sciences, scientific exegesis, and the relationship between revelation and science. The findings indicate that scientific Qur'anic exegesis should be grounded in authentic scriptural sources, established scientific knowledge, and sound interpretive principles to avoid speculative interpretations. Consequently, an integrative epistemological framework enables scientific exegesis to remain faithful to the primary objectives of the Qur'an while maintaining relevance to contemporary scientific developments.
