Abstract
Abstract: In building the motivation and morale of teachers, it is necessary to have good leadership in achieving these goals. As an effort to maintain harmonization, teacher welfare and adapt to the situation and conditions of subordinates. One of the strengths in managing school organizations and being responsible for dealing with change is the role and leadership behavior of the principal, as the principal of the school is required to be able to initiate new thoughts in the process of interaction in the school environment. This study aims to determine the role of the principal as a motivator to optimize the performance of teachers and PPSD SDN Ketangirejo I. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this research include principals, teachers, and PPSD. The results showed that the principal's role was very influential in increasing the performance motivation of the teacher council, both the principal's duties as supervisors, managers, and motivators. The answer to the second problem formulation is that the principal can improve teacher performance, the infrastructure in the institution is quiteiadequate and the creation of good relations between school residents and the surrounding community. Supporting and inhibiting factors in increasing teacher performance motivation include: enthusiasm and high enthusiasm from teachers to change their mindset and work for the better, principals can mingle with their subordinates and can position themselves asmanagers, supervisors, and motivators. good for his subordinates. While the inhibiting factoris from within himself and also from the surrounding environment.
