Abstract
Pendidikan merupakan salah satu wilayah (area of cincern) gerakan pembaruan Islam yang berlangsung di seluruh dunia Islam. Tokoh-tokoh gerakan pembaruan Islam seperti Muhamad Abduh di Mesir, Sayyid Akhmad Khan di anak benua India menjadikan pendidikan sebagai agenda utama gerakan pembaruan Islam yang mereka canangkan. Sejak awal abad ke-19 sampai awal abad ke-20 hampir di seluruh dunia Islam berdiri lembaga-lembaga pendidikan Islam yang bercorak modern. Di anak benua India, Sayyid Akhmad Khan mendirikan Universitas Alighar yang sepenuhnya mengadaptasi sistem pendidikan Universitas Oxford di Inggris. Di Mesir, Muhamad Abduh berusaha mentransformasikan Universitas al-Azhar dengan memasukkan ilmu-ilmu modern.
