Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to explore the model of education for harmony among religious communities in the city of Balikpapan, considering that Balikpapan is a city with a heterogeneous population comprising various races and ethnicities. The research employs a qualitative descriptive case study approach, utilizing participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis as data collection techniques. The results indicate that harmony among religious communities in the city of Balikpapan is facilitated by the active roles of the Forum for Harmony Among Religious Communities (FKUB), the Communication Forum of Balikpapan Associations (FKPB), religious leaders, community figures, and the city government. They collaborate and work together with all layers of society to create a peaceful, tranquil, safe, and comfortable environment in the city of Balikpapan, avoiding conflicts, fostering productive activities, promoting tolerance, and respecting one another. The limitations of this study are that it only reflects the unique conditions in Balikpapan and may not be directly applicable to different social, cultural, or religious contexts elsewhere. Future research recommendations include a more in-depth analysis of the impact of the implemented harmony education model by the government and religious organizations in Balikpapan. This could involve evaluating the effectiveness of specific programs in achieving harmony objectives.
