JIEM (Journal of Education and Islamic Moderation) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the pascasarjana UNKAFA. This statement outlines the ethical principles and responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process — including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. The ethical standards adopted by JIEM are based on the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Best Practice Guidelines for journal editors and publishers.
The publication of a scholarly article in JIEM represents a vital contribution to the development of knowledge and academic dialogue in the field of education and Islamic moderation. It reflects the integrity and professionalism of the authors and their affiliated institutions. Therefore, all parties involved in the publication process must adhere to the principles of honesty, fairness, and academic integrity.
As the publisher, the pascasarjana UNKAFA is committed to maintaining high ethical standards throughout all stages of publication. Editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by commercial interests, sponsorships, or external pressures. The publisher and the Editorial Board will also facilitate transparent communication with other journals and publishers when deemed necessary to ensure ethical integrity.
Publication Decisions
The Editor-in-Chief of JIEM holds full responsibility for determining which submitted manuscripts will be published. Editorial decisions are made based on the manuscript’s academic merit, originality, significance, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Editors may consult with reviewers or other members of the editorial board when necessary and must always act in accordance with legal and ethical standards concerning defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
Fair Evaluation
Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their intellectual content without discrimination based on the authors’ race, gender, religion, nationality, political orientation, or institutional affiliation.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts and related materials. Information may only be shared with corresponding authors, reviewers, or other editorial advisors when appropriate.
Conflict of Interest
Editors must not use any unpublished material from submitted manuscripts for their own research or advantage without the explicit written consent of the authors.
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer-reviewers assist editors in making publication decisions and may provide constructive feedback to help authors improve their manuscripts.
Timeliness
Reviewers who feel unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or unable to complete a review within the given timeframe should promptly notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Objectivity and Confidentiality
Reviews must be conducted objectively, and reviewers should avoid personal criticism of authors. All reviewed materials must be treated as confidential documents and may not be shared or discussed with others without editorial permission.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers are expected to identify any relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and report any significant similarities or overlaps with other published works known to them.
Conflict of Interest
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest—financial, institutional, or collaborative—that might affect their objectivity in evaluating a manuscript.
Reporting Standards
Authors must present an accurate and honest account of their research findings and an objective discussion of their significance. Data must be represented truthfully and in sufficient detail to enable replication. Fabrication, falsification, or misrepresentation of data constitutes unethical behavior.
Data Access and Retention
Authors should be prepared to provide access to raw data upon editorial request and retain such data for a reasonable period after publication.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure their manuscripts are entirely original and that any sources or quotations are properly cited. Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism, is strictly prohibited.
Multiple or Redundant Publications
Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publish similar research results in multiple outlets.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of others’ work must always be provided. All references that influenced the reported research should be clearly cited.
Authorship Criteria
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. All co-authors must approve the final version of the paper and agree to its submission.
Research Ethics and Human Subjects
If the study involves human participants or potentially hazardous materials, authors must clearly indicate compliance with ethical standards and institutional review protocols. Confidentiality and informed consent of participants must be respected at all times.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could be perceived as influencing their research outcomes.
Correction of Errors
When authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they are obligated to promptly notify the editor and cooperate in issuing corrections or retractions as necessary.
JIEM is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in academic publishing. All parties—authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher—are expected to act with integrity, transparency, and respect for scholarly values to ensure that every publication contributes positively to the advancement of education and Islamic moderation.
